“We live in a dangerous world. And each of us makes our own choice. But the worst choice is inaction. We will never stop protecting the safety of our people and telling the world about Ukraine.”

Serhiy Kruk

“If there were more than 24 hours in a day, perhaps then we would have a time for fear or hesitation... We are the saviors of Ukraine. Without fear or hesitation, we are using a live shield to protect against those who encroached on the freedom of a multi-million nation”

Heroic and long-suffering Kharkiv city. Air raids are every day, it means work for our rescuers again and again.

Another manifestation of heroism is not to lose humanity amidst the sheer horror.

Tired, but unconquered, are keeping a line!

The mass-media report about the Kharkiv rescuers is the first in the cycle for the Rescuer's Day on September 17, prepared in cooperation with the State Emergency Service and Suspilne Novyny. These are the stories of those who save Ukrainians every day in the war: evacuate from destroyed buildings and cities, put out fires, and dismantle rubbles. Sometimes — at the cost of one's own life.

"There were not enough people at the beginning of the invasion , because it was new sphere for our service, such a scale. At first there were two of us, then several more people were trained in the specialty of rescuer-climber," — Serhii Bilous, rescuer-climber from Kharkiv city.

So, since February 24, 2022, units of the State Emergency Service carried out 136 thousand 605 trips to eliminate the consequences of shelling, 17 thousand 753 fires were extinguished, 4 thousand 900 people were rescued, psychological assistance was provided to 237 thousand 704 people.

"We work without any doubts, because there is simply no time for anything else!"

"The most difficult thing is to see how my native city is being destroyed. You look there — the building is completely destroyed, there — acquaintances died. Native land helps. And the thought that we will rebuild everything soon."

Oleksandr,

rescuer from Bakhmut town

Bakhmut town. As a result of enemy shelling, the russians destroyed the fire and rescue unit. This is not the first unit of the State Emergency Service to be fired upon by the russians.

But daily shelling cannot break the spirit of our rescuers.

We are united, therefore unbreakable!

Serhiy Kruk, Head of the State Emergency Service

Lyman town. Our unit is the first place that everyone who enters the city sees.

Our guys are rebuilding every fire station that the russian army tried to destroy...

The help from each of you today is the victory of our state tomorrow!

I am proud of each of you!

"Guardian angels. People who understand what life is, why it is given by the God and what to do if someone is in danger."

January 14, 2023! Dnipro city.

Black day in the calendar for every Ukrainian. During another cynical air attack an enemy rocket hit an multi-storey apartment building, destroying one entire stairwell. The search and rescue operation lasted three days. There was mutilated apartments, tons of rubble, but most important issue was human lives lost forever.

That day was the last for 44 residents. 5 children was among them! Another 39 people, including 6 children, were saved by emergency workers, 79 Dnipro city residents were physically injured! But the moral injuries remained forever in the heart of whole Ukraine.

"If we are informed that a person needs help, we simply save him. It should be so. We do not expect praise, because this is our work. Rescuers do not think they are heroes. But as ordinary people, we are pleased when we are thanked and when we manage to save someone successfully, we give them, so to speak, a second life" – Dmytro.

Another shelling of residential infrastructure in Mykolaiv city. We do everything possible to minimize the consequences.

"First of all, you rethink the world of values in your life... Previously, you sought to achieve something, for example, in your career. I wanted to build a good house, have fine furniture, a cool new big TV set. And now you appreciate just life. Because you see how people are dying all around, war is going on...friends and comrades are dying. A lot of people I knew are gone. All these things are being reassessed, rethought... The most important thing is your life and health, that of your relatives, siblings, brothers, subordinates... And the hatred for “the katsaps” grows by itself!" — Roman Shutylo, head of the pyrotechnic works division of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine

"Every day, specialists of the State Emergency Service remove more than 1,000 pieces of ammunition.

Our pyrotechnicians are primarily demining power lines so that energy workers can support the energy system of Ukraine. They are risking their lives for the sake of Ukrainians returning to the liberated territories, to their homes as soon as possible." — Serhiy Kruk

Since the beginning of the large-scale military invasion of the russian federation on the territory of Ukraine, a total of 470 thousand 721 pieces of explosive objects have been neutralized and 2 thousand 894 kg of explosives, including 3 thousand 227 aerial bombs. The territory with an area of about 117 thousand 186 hectares was surveyed.

Every day, pyrotechnicians of the State Emergency Service clear the territory of Ukraine of the consequences of russian aggression not only on land, but also on water.

In the summer and fall of last year, the underwater demining department inspected the water areas of the region for the presence of explosive objects. The divers of the State Emergency Service found 8 cluster elements from the reactive systems of salvo fire, 7 pieces of which were removed, and one was destroyed in the reservoir by controlled detonation. A total of 11.5 ha of bottom was checked.

However, even after the inspection of the coastal zone and underwater water area, no one can guarantee the complete safety of citizens when visiting the beaches.

"There are already non rare cases in this area that the russian troops planted engineering ammunition, which was processed specifically to catch our sappers. In other words, there is a purposeful hunt for our sappers who are demining these lands" — Oleksandr Dvoretskyi, a demining senior in the Kherson direction.

"When you drive along a ground road and see nearby a tree cut down by mortar shelling, you understand that one mistake can cost your life. Or the enemy who hunts our sappers and deliberately sets mine-traps that injure and sometimes take the lives of our heroes. But our guys continue to work and clean the de-occupied territories of the Kherson region every day." — Serhiy Kruk

"We live in a dangerous world. And each of us makes our own choice. But the worst choice is inaction. We will never stop protecting the safety of our people..."

From the first minute of cynical full-scale invasion of the enemy on the territory of Ukraine, rescuers of the State Emergency Service have been fighting fiercely: under fire, risking their own lives every time, they save hundreds of Ukrainians. So, every day they deliver humanitarian goods, provide psychological and first emergency medical aid. And they do all this actually under permanent enemy fire.

So, every day they deliver humanitarian goods, provide psychological and first emergency medical aid. And they do all this actually under permanent enemy fire.

Every day, units of the State Emergency Service throughout Ukraine help people who have suffered from military actions by the russian federation.

Thus, in the summer in Kharkiv Oblast, rescuers and psychologists of the State Emergency Service provided assistance to forced migrants from the temporarily occupied territories of the region. A total of about 800 Ukrainians, including 243 children were evacuated from communities temporarily under control of the aggressor.

"They feed and evacuate people, repair housing and preserve houses — the rescuers of Donetsk region have added work in the conditions of a full-scale war. In addition to extinguishing fires, eliminating the consequences of emergency situations, demining, they have to perform a whole series of humanitarian tasks."

A look that cannot be forgotten, that leaves an imprint on the heart! Every day, rescuers give hope for a quiet corner in other regions of Ukraine. Every day, emergency workers help residents who are in the territory of hostilities to evacuate to safer cities.

No child in the world should see the horrors of war! She should not run away from her beloved home, sleep not in her warm bed, live in a different city and not see her friends!

"I thank you, on behalf of all the rescuers of Ukraine, for the friendship that exists between our countries. After all, the fire fraternity has no borders when you and I are united by one goal - to save the lives of others." — Serhiy Kruk

Since the very beginning of the russian federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Rescue Service has been receiving humanitarian aid from rescue services from around the world. And, first of all, it is the technical support of all divisions of the State Emergency Service for prompt and high-quality, and most importantly - safe response to new challenges of modern times.

Despite of all today horrors, the employees of the State Emergency Service actively continue to bring joy to young Ukrainians!

Therefore, almost every day, so that Ukrainian schoolchildren and preschoolers know how to protect their lives from danger and be able to make the right decisions in the event of an emergency, rescuers in a playful way teach children the basic rules of safety during shelling, fire, detection of explosive objects, use of alternative energy sources.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine thanks all the donors who help to hold events of this nature with children.
